Robert G. Southall

Robert Goode Southall (born December 26, 1852 in Amelia Court House , Amelia County , Virginia , †  May 25, 1924 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Southall attended Washington Academy and the High School of Amelia County . In 1873 and 1874 he was employed as a deputy clerk in the Nottoway County administration. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his admission to the bar in 1877, he began to work in this profession at Amelia Court House. Between 1884 and 1902 he was a district attorney in Amelia County. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1888 and 1896 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions . Between 1899 and 1903 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives .

In the 1902 congressional elections , Southall was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Francis R. Lassiter on March 4, 1903 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1907 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, he practiced as a lawyer again. From 1912 until his death on May 25, 1924, Robert Southall was a judge in the Virginia Fourth Judicial District.
