Elisha Edward Meredith (born December 26, 1848 in Sumter County , Alabama , †  July 29, 1900 in Manassas , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1897 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elisha Meredith attended Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1869 and began practicing the profession in Prince William County . There he was also a district attorney between 1876 and 1883. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . From 1883 to 1887 he was a member of the Virginia Senate .

After the death of MP William Henry Fitzhugh Lee , Meredith was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on December 9, 1891. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1897 . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Elisha Meredith practiced as a lawyer again. He died on July 29, 1900 in Manassas, where he was also buried.
