Joseph T. Deal

Joseph Thomas Deal (born November 19, 1860 in Surry , Surry County , Virginia , †  March 7, 1942 in Norfolk , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1921 and 1929 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Deal attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1882 at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington . He then worked in the construction and timber construction industry. Since 1891 he was based in Norfolk, where he chaired the local development committee between 1905 and 1910. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In July 1908 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver , where William Jennings Bryan was nominated for the third time as a presidential candidate. Deal served in the Virginia House of Representatives from 1910 to 1912 . In 1919 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the congressional elections of 1920 Deal was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Edward Everett Holland on March 4, 1921 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 4, 1929 . In 1928 he was not re-confirmed. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Joseph Deal resumed his previous activities. He died in Norfolk on March 7, 1942.
