Andrew Beirne

Andrew Beirne (* 1771 in Dangan , County Roscommon , Ireland , †  March 16, 1845 in Gainesville , Alabama ) was an American politician . Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Andrew Beirne attended public schools in his Irish homeland and then studied at Trinity University in Dublin . In 1793 he came to the United States, where he settled in Union in what is now West Virginia . There he worked in trade and agriculture. He also embarked on a political career. He served in the Virginia House of Representatives in 1807 and 1808 . During the British-American War of 1812 he served as a Colonel in the Monroe County Militia . After that, he continued his previous activities. Politically, he did not reappear until the end of the 1820s. At that time he joined the Democratic Party founded by Andrew Jackson . In 1829 and 1830 Beirne was a delegate at a meeting to revise the constitution of his state. From 1831 to 1836 he was a member of the Virginia Senate .

In the congressional election of 1836 , Beirne was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1837. After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1841 . In 1840 he renounced another candidacy. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he was active again in trade and agriculture. He died on March 16, 1845 while visiting Gainesville.
