Edward Carrington Venable

Edward Carrington Venable (born January 31, 1853 in Farmville , Prince Edward County , Virginia , †  December 8, 1908 in Baltimore , Maryland ) was an American politician . In 1889 and 1890 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Venable attended public schools in his home country and then McCabe's University High School in Petersburg . He then studied at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville . For the next three years he worked as a teacher. In 1876 Venable moved to Petersburg, where he worked in trade. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1886 he was a delegate to the regional Democratic Party convention in Virginia.

In the congressional elections of 1888 , Venable was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded William E. Gaines on March 4, 1889 . However, at this point in time there was an objection to the outcome of the election by his opponent John Mercer Langston, who had lost the election . When this was complied with, Venable had to cede his mandate to Langston on September 23, 1890.

After his brief stint in the US House of Representatives, Venable returned to trading. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died on December 8, 1908 in Baltimore and was buried in Petersburg.
