Thomas M. Nelson

Thomas Maduit Nelson (born September 27, 1782 in Oak Hill , Mecklenburg County , Virginia , † November 10, 1853 in Columbus , Georgia ) was an American politician . Between 1816 and 1819 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Thomas Nelson attended public schools in his home country. During the British-American War he was a captain or major in an infantry unit. He remained in the military until May 1815. He later embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party .

After the death of Congressman Thomas Gholson , Nelson was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC when he was due for election to the 18th seat of Virginia , where he took up his new mandate on December 4, 1816. After re-election, he was able to complete a legislative term in Congress until March 3, 1819 . In 1818 he renounced another candidacy.
