Carter Bassett Harrison

Carter Bassett Harrison (born around 1756 in Charles City County , Colony of Virginia , † April 18, 1808 in Prince George County , Virginia ) was an American politician .

Harrison was born around 1756 to Benjamin Harrison . He was thus an older brother of the future President William Henry Harrison (1773-1841). He attended the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg . 1784 to 1786 and 1805 to 1808 Harrison was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates . Between March 4, 1793 and March 3, 1799 he was a member of the United States House of Representatives for the state of Virginia . In the third Congress he stood in opposition to the federal government under Presidents George Washington and John Adams ( anti-administration faction ), after which he became a member of the Democratic-Republican Party founded by the later President Thomas Jefferson . Harrison died in Prince George County on April 18, 1808.
