Leslie Larkin Byrne (born October 27, 1946 in Salt Lake City , Utah ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 1995 she represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Leslie Byrne studied at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and at Mount Vernon College in Ohio . She has lived in Virginia since 1971, where she co-founded Quintech Associates Inc. in 1985 . At the same time she embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . She served in the Virginia House of Representatives from 1985 to 1992 .

In the 1992 election , Byrne was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 11th Congressional constituency of Virginia . This congressional electoral district was newly created after the results of the 1990 census ; last of all, Virginia had an 11th congressional electoral district until 1863 and lost it with the secession of West Virginia (last owner: Jacob B. Blair ). On January 3, 1993, Byrne began serving in the House of Representatives. Since Byrne was not confirmed in the 1994 election , her mandate ended on January 3, 1995 after the two-year term of the 103rd Congress .

In 1996 she unsuccessfully sought in the primary election to nominate her party for election to the US Senate . Between 2000 and 2003 she was a member of the Virginia Senate . In 2005, her candidacy for the office of lieutenant governor in that state failed ; In 2008 , she also ran unsuccessfully in her party's primary election to return to Congress.

Leslie Byrne is married to the owner of a consulting firm. The couple have two grown children.
