James Machir

James Machir († June 25, 1827 ) was an American politician . Between 1797 and 1799 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Machir's date and place of birth have not been recorded. He became politically active in the 1790s. He served in the Virginia House of Representatives from 1793 to 1796 . He then joined the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . In the congressional elections of 1796 he was elected in the third constituency of Virginia in the US House of Representatives, which was then still in Philadelphia , where he succeeded George Jackson on March 4, 1797 . Until March 3, 1799 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . Then the mandate fell back to his predecessor Jackson.

Nothing is known about his professional activities beyond politics after he left Congress. Between 1811 and 1813 and again from 1818 to 1821 he was again a member of the State Parliament of Virginia. He died on June 25, 1827.
