John F. Snodgrass

John Fryall Snodgrass (born March 2, 1804 in Berkeley County , Virginia , †  June 5, 1854 in Parkersburg , Virginia) was an American politician . In 1853 and 1854 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Born in what is now West Virginia , John Snodgrass attended public schools in his homeland. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1843, he began to work in this profession in Parkersburg. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1850 and 1851 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Virginia Constitution.

In the congressional election of 1852 , Snodgrass was elected to the eleventh constituency of Virginia in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded John Letcher on March 4, 1853 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on June 5, 1854. His time as a congressman was marked by the events leading up to the civil war .
