William Francis Rhea

William Francis Rhea (born April 20, 1858 in Bristol , Virginia , †  March 23, 1931 in Richmond , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1903 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

William Rhea attended both public and private schools. In 1878 he graduated from King College in Bristol ( Tennessee ). After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1879, he began to work in this profession in his hometown of Bristol. Between 1880 and 1885 Rhea was a judge in Washington County there . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1885 and 1889 he was a member of the Virginia Senate . Until 1895 he was a city judge in Bristol. After that he practiced as a lawyer again.

In the 1898 congressional election , Rhea was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded James A. Walker on March 4, 1899 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1903 . In 1902 he was not re-elected. After his time in the US House of Representatives, Rhea returned to work as a lawyer. Between 1908 and 1925 he was a member of the Virginia State Corporation Commission . He died in Richmond on March 23, 1931.
