Barbara Jean Comstock (born June 30, 1959 in Springfield , Massachusetts ) is an American lobbyist and former politician . From 2015 to 2019 she represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Barbara Comstock studied Political Science at Middlebury College in Vermont . After completing a law degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC and being admitted to the bar, she began working in this profession. Among other things, she is a founding member of the agencies Corallo Comstock and Comstock Strategies . At the same time she embarked on a political career. She trained in the office of Senator Edward Kennedy . Between 1991 and 1995 she was on the staff of Congressman Frank Wolf , who like herself belongs to the Republican Party and whose successor she was to take over in 2015. Between 1995 and 1999 she was an administrative member of the Congress Committee on Government Reform. In 2000 she worked for George W. Bush during the presidential campaign . She then worked for the US Department of Justice in 2002 and 2003 . In 2012 she was a consultant on Mitt Romney's campaign team , who was running for the presidency without success at the time. She was also a member of the Virginia House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014 .

In the 2014 congressional election , Comstock in the tenth constituency of Virginia was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington with 56.49 percent of the vote against Democrat John Foust, where she succeeded Frank Wolf on January 3, 2015, who succeeded Had not run for office for 34 years. Since she was confirmed in office in 2016, she will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . Their new legislative period ran until January 3, 2019; she ran for re-election in November 2018 , but was defeated by Democrat Jennifer Wexton .

After retiring from active politics, she became a senior advisor to the lobbying firm Baker Donelson's Government Relations and Public Policy Group in late January 2019 .
