Dan Newhouse
Daniel Milton "Dan" Newhouse (born July 10, 1955 in Sunnyside , Yakima County , Washington ) is an American politician . Since January 2015, he represents the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Dan Newhouse grew up on his parents' farm. He studied agriculture at Washington State University and then worked as a farmer himself. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 2003 and 2009 he was a member of the Washington House of Representatives ; from 2009 to 2013 he was the minister of agriculture in his state.
In the 2014 congressional election , Newhouse was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the fourth constituency of Washington, with 51 percent of the vote, where he succeeded Doc Hastings on January 3, 2015 , who had not been in office after 20 years had run more. He prevailed in the runoff election against his party colleague Clint Didier after both of them had taken the first two places in an open-party primary . Re-elected in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
