Homer Jones

Homer Raymond Jones (born September 3, 1893 in Martinsburg , Audrain County , Missouri , †  November 26, 1970 in Bremerton , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1949 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1901 Homer Jones came to Bremerton where he attended public schools. He then studied business administration at Seattle Business College . During the First World War he served in the US Navy from 1917 to 1919 . Between 1919 and 1921 he was a metal worker at the Bremerton naval shipyard. Then he began a political career.

From 1922 to 1924 he was a councilor in Charleston ; until 1927 he was mayor of this place. From 1926 to 1929 Jones was a treasurer of Kitsap County , and from 1929 to 1933 he was his state's deputy treasury secretary. In Bremerton he also held the office of treasurer between 1933 and 1937. He was then mayor of this place between 1939 and 1941. During World War II , Jones was captain of the naval reserves from 1941 to 1946 .

Politically, Jones was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1946 congressional election, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of his state , where he succeeded Hugh De Lacy on January 3, 1947 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Hugh Mitchell in the 1948 elections, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1949 .

Between 1949 and 1953, Homer Jones headed the Washington State Veterans Service in Retsil . He was then Assistant Secretary of the Treasury of Washington State from 1953 to 1957. He also worked in the real estate industry. Homer Jones died on November 26, 1970 in Bremerton and was buried there.
