Francis W. Cushman

Francis Wellington Cushman (born May 8, 1867 in Brighton , Washington County , Iowa , †  July 6, 1909 in New York City ) was an American politician . Between 1899 and 1909 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Francis Cushman attended his home public schools and the Pleasant Plain Academy in Jefferson County . In 1885 he moved to Wyoming . There he worked on a ranch and as a teacher. After studying law and its made in 1889 admitted to the bar he began in Bassett ( Nebraska to work in his new job). In 1891 he moved to Tacoma, Washington state, where he also practiced as a lawyer. Between 1896 and 1903 he was a member of the Washington National Guard .

Politically, Cushman was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1898 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the first constituency of his state , where he succeeded Democrat J. Hamilton Lewis on March 4, 1899 . After five re-elections he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress until his death on July 6, 1909.
