John E. Cunningham

John Edward Cunningham III. (Born March 27, 1931 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American politician . Between 1977 and 1979 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Cunningham attended Scituate High School in Massachusetts until 1948 and then studied at the University of San Francisco in California until 1953 . Until 1958 he continued his studies at Seattle University in Washington State. Between 1953 and 1954 he was part of the US Air Force Reserve . He later worked as a private businessman.

Politically, Cunningham joined the Republican Party . Between 1973 and 1975 he was a member of the Washington House of Representatives ; from 1975 to 1977 he was a member of the State Senate . After the resignation of Congressman Brock Adams , Cunningham was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the by-election for the seventh parliamentary term of the state of Washington . There he took up his new mandate on May 17, 1977. But since he was defeated by the Democrat Mike Lowry in the regular congressional elections of 1978 , he was only able to end the current term of his predecessor in Congress until January 3, 1979 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Cunningham withdrew from politics. Today he lives in Zenith, Washington state.
