Dennis "Denny" Heck (born July 29, 1952 in Vancouver , Washington ) is an American politician . Since 2013 he has represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Dennis Heck attended Columbia River High School and then, until 1973, Evergreen State College in Olympia . He then continued his education until 1975 at Portland State University . Then he worked as a freelance entrepreneur. He became a co-founder and is the current President of Intrepid Learning Solutions , which offers training courses and learning programs. Heck was also involved in founding TVW , a television station that deals with regional politics in Washington state. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1976 and 1986 he was a member of the Washington House of Representatives . From 1977 to 1985 he led the democratic group. He then acted from 1985 to 1987 as Chief Clerk of the State House of Representatives .

Between 1989 and 1993, Heck was Chief of Staff to Governor Booth Gardner . In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives. In the 2012 congressional elections , however, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the newly established tenth constituency of Washington , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 2013. In the election, he prevailed against the Republican Dick Muri with 58:42 percent of the vote . After three re-elections in 2014, 2016 and 2018, he can still hold office today. He won his most recent re-election to date against the Republican Party candidate, Joseph Brumbles, with 62 percent of the vote. The new legislative period runs until 2021 with the option of a further candidacy in 2020.

Heck has been married since 1976 and has two sons.
