Richard Ray "Rick" Larsen (born June 15, 1965 in Arlington , Snohomish County , Washington ) is an American politician . Since 2001 he has represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rick Larsen studied at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma until 1987 and then at the University of Minnesota until 1990 . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . Between 1998 and 2000 he served on the Snohomish County County Council.

In the 2000 congressional elections , Larsen was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of his home state . There he took over from Republican Jack Metcalf on January 3, 2001 . As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. His time as a congressman included the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan . He is or was a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as some sub-committees. He is also a member of several Congressional Caucuses . He was previously a member of the Budget Committee . He supported the health care reform by President Barack Obama and his plan for a troop withdrawal from Iraq . He originally voted against the Iraq war in October 2002. After that, however, he approved almost all government proposals relating to politics in Iraq and Afghanistan.
