Derek Kilmer (born January 1, 1974 in Port Angeles , Washington ) is an American politician . Since 2013 he has represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Derek Kilmer graduated from Princeton University in New Jersey in 1996 . He later studied philosophy with the help of a scholarship at the University of Oxford in England . After returning to his homeland, he initially worked as a private businessman. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 2005 and 2007 he was an MP in the Washington House of Representatives ; from 2007 to 2012 he was a member of the State Senate .

In the 2012 congressional election , Kilmer was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Washington , DC , where he succeeded the no longer-running Norman D. Dicks on January 3, 2013 . He received 186,661 votes. His opponent Bill Driscoll received 129,725 votes. After three re-elections so far in 2014, 2016 and 2018, he continues to exercise his office as a member of parliament today.

Derek Kilmer is married and lives privately in Artondale .
