Charles Raymon Savage (born April 12, 1906 in La Farge , Wisconsin , †  January 14, 1976 in Shelton , Washington ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1947 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Savage attended public schools in his home country. He then specialized his further training in the areas of mechanics, construction, business law and trade. He later moved to Washington State, where he worked in the construction and timber business. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1939 and 1976 he was a member of the Washington House of Representatives on several occasions . In the period between 1938 and 1970 he was twelve times a delegate to the regional party congresses of the Democrats in his new home state Washington. In 1944 he was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago , where incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt was nominated for the fourth and final time as a presidential candidate.

In the 1944 congressional election , Savage was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the third constituency of his state , where he succeeded Republican Fred B. Norman on January 3, 1945 . Since he lost to Norman in the following elections, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1947 . During this time the Second World War ended .

In 1947 Savage failed with a candidacy in a congressional by-election as well as in 1948 in his candidacy in the regular congressional elections. Ten years later, in 1958, he unsuccessfully sought his party's nomination for election to the US House of Representatives. Since 1947 three attempts to return to Congress had failed. Professionally he worked again in the wood industry. He was also a district manager for an insurance company. He also worked in the real estate business. Charles Savage died on January 14, 1976 in Shelton and was buried there.
