Maria Cantwell
Maria E. Cantwell (* 13. October 1958 in Indianapolis , Indiana ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party , and since January 2001 US Senator for the state of Washington .
Life
She grew up in an Irish suburb in Indianapolis. After finishing high school in Indianapolis, she attended Miami University in Oxford , Ohio . After completing her Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration , she moved to Seattle , Washington, to work as campaign manager for Alan Cranston , who was running for the Democratic presidential nomination.
In 1986 she was elected to the Washington House of Representatives, to which she served until the beginning of 1993. In 1992, she was elected to the US House of Representatives as a Democratic MP for the first constituency of Washington , from January 3, 1993 to January 3, 1995. The re-election failed, from 1995 to 2000 she was Vice President of Real Networks for Marketing.
In 2000, she won the election of Washington Senator against Republican incumbent Slade Gorton . She was re-elected in 2006, 2012 and 2018. In the Senate, she is a member of the trade, science and transport committee . She also temporarily chaired the SME Committee .
