Levi Ankeny (born August 1, 1844 in St. Joseph , Missouri , † March 29, 1921 in Walla Walla , Washington ) was an American politician who represented the state of Washington in the US Senate .

biography

Levi Ankeny moved with his parents to Portland , Oregon in 1850 at the age of six, where he spent most of his childhood and adolescence. After attending agricultural school, Ankeny graduated from Kingsley Academy , where he received his degree in business administration . He then moved to Idaho , where he worked as a businessman in Lewiston , Orofino and Florence . In the mid-1860s, Ankeny was elected first mayor of Lewiston, a position that marked his first political office. In 1867 he married Paulina Nesmith, daughter of Senator James Nesmith from Oregon; both had five children together.

In the early 1870s, Ankeny moved to Washington and settled in Walla Walla. Here he found a professional future in banking, which he pursued over the next 30 years. In 1902 he successfully ran for a seat in the United States Senate as a Republican party member . Ankeny's term of office ran from March 4, 1903 to March 3, 1909. In 1908, he renounced another candidacy. Ankeny, who was again successful as a banker in the 1910s, died in March 1921.
