Walter Franklin "Walt" Horan (born October 15, 1898 in Wenatchee , Washington , †  December 19, 1966 in Manila , Philippines ) was an American politician . Between 1943 and 1965 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Walt Horan attended public schools in his home country including Wenatchee High School . He then studied until 1925 at Washington State College in Pullman . His training was interrupted by the First World War, in which he participated between 1917 and 1919 as a soldier in the US Navy . After finishing his studies, Horan dealt with fruit growing. He also took care of packaging, storage and shipping.

Politically, Horan was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1942 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of his state . There he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1943. After ten re-elections, he was able to complete eleven consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1965 . There he was temporarily chairman of the District of Columbia Administration Committee. He was also a member of six sub-committees of the Budget Committee. World War II ended while he was in the US House of Representatives . Other events at that time were the Korean War , the beginning of the Vietnam War , the Cuban Missile Crisis and the civil rights movement. The 22nd , 23rd and 24th amendments to the Constitution were also ratified during this period .

In the 1964 election, Walt Horan was defeated by Democrat Tom Foley . He died on December 19, 1966 in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and was buried in Wenatchee, his birthplace.
