Richard Norman "Doc" Hastings (* 7. February 1941 in Spokane , Washington ) is an American politician of the Republican Party and former member of the US House of Representatives Washington .

biography

After attending the high school of Pasco he studied between 1959 and 1961 first at Columbia Basin College and later from 1963 to 1964 at Washington State University . In addition to completing his military service in the US Army Reserve from 1963 to 1969, he worked as an economic manager. He was also a member of the United States Junior Chamber ( Jaycees ) from 1967 to 1976 and director of the United States Junior Chamber from 1973 to 1974 .

His political career began with the election of a member of the Washington House of Representatives ( Washington House of Representatives ), where he served as a representative of the Republicans from 1979 to 1987. In addition, he was a delegate at the Republican National Conventions in 1976, 1980 and 1984 to list his party's presidential candidates.

After he ran unsuccessfully against Jay Inslee for a seat in the US House of Representatives in 1992, he was elected for the first time in 1994 against Inslee and, after nine subsequent re-elections from January 3, 1995 to January 3, 2015, represented the fourth congressional electoral district of Washington. Between 2005 and 2007 he was chairman of the US House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct , which sets ethical standards for MPs and investigates possible violations of them. From 2011 to 2015 was Hastings Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources ( US House Committee on Natural Resources ). In 2014 he did not stand for re-election. His successor was again a Republican with Dan Newhouse .
