Sidney Wallace "Sid" Morrison (born May 13, 1933 in Yakima , Washington ) is an American politician . Between 1981 and 1993 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Sid Morrison attended public schools in Toppenish and then Yakima Valley College until 1951 . In 1954 he finished his education at Washington State University in Pullman . Between 1954 and 1956 he served as a soldier in the US Army . He then became a partner in the Morrison Fruit Co.

Politically, Morrison joined the Republican Party . Between 1976 and 1974 he was a member of the Washington House of Representatives ; thereafter he was a member of the State Senate from 1974 to 1980 . In the 1980 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of his state . There he took over from Mike McCormack on January 3, 1981 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . There he was temporarily a member of the House Resources Committee .

In 1992, Morrison renounced another candidacy for the US House of Representatives. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully in his party's gubernatorial election in Washington. Between 1993 and 2001, Morrison headed his home state's Department of Transportation. He is a member and currently chairman of the Washington State Mainstream Republican Organization , a Republican party organization.
