Jack Metcalf (born November 30, 1927 in Marysville , Snohomish County , Washington , †  March 15, 2007 in Langley , Washington) was an American politician . Between 1995 and 2001 he represented the state of Washington in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jack Metcalf attended public schools in his home country. Between 1946 and 1947 he served in the US Army . He was then employed by the Federal Fish and Wildlife Service in the Alaska Territory in 1947 and 1948 . He then worked as a teacher for 30 years after completing the relevant training. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1968 and 1974 he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the United States Senate . Between 1966 and 1974 and again from 1980 to 1992 he sat in the Washington Senate . In 1992 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives.

In the 1994 congressional elections , Metcalf was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the second constituency of his state , where he succeeded Al Swift from the Democratic Party on January 3, 1995 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress until January 3, 2001 . In 2000 Metcalf declined to run again. He died on March 15, 2007 in Langley.
