Joseph L. Fisher

Joseph Lyman Fisher (born January 11, 1914 in Pawtucket , Rhode Island , †  February 19, 1992 in Arlington , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1981 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Fisher public schools visited his home and from then until 1935, the Bowdoin College in Brunswick ( Maine ). He then worked for an accountant firm for a few years. From 1939 he worked for the National Resource Planning Board ; in 1942 he was in the service of the US State Department . During the Second World War he served in the US Army between 1943 and 1946 . After the war, he studied philosophy at Harvard University and then economics at George Washington University . He then worked as a business advisor. From 1953 to 1974 he was the head of Resources for the Future, Inc. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the 1974 congressional election , Fisher was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the tenth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Joel Broyhill on January 3, 1975 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . In 1980 he was not re-elected.

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Fisher served as Secretary of Human Resources in Virginia from 1982 to 1986 . He was then an economics professor at George Mason University until 1992 . He died in Arlington on February 19, 1992.
