Career

Not much information has survived about John Gray. Neither his exact place of birth nor his date of birth are known. There is also no evidence of his life beyond politics. He received an academic education. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Republican Party founded by Thomas Jefferson . Between 1804 and 1806 and again from 1821 to 1823 he sat in the Virginia House of Representatives .

After the resignation of MP James Johnson , Gray was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he took up his new mandate on August 28, 1820. Since he was not confirmed in the regular congressional elections of 1820 , he could only end the current legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1821 .

Nothing is known about his activities after he left the US House of Representatives. It is noted, without a location, that he died on March 18, 1823.
