Porter Hardy Junior

Porter Hardy Jr. (born June 1, 1903 in Bon Air , Virginia - † April 19, 1995 ) was an American politician . He represented the state of Virginia as a member of the US House of Representatives .

Career

After attending school in Bon Air, Porter Hardy went to the Randolph-Macon Academy in Bedford . He graduated from Boykins High School in 1918 and from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland in 1922 . He also attended the Graduate School of Business Administration ( School of Business Administration ) at Harvard University between 1923 and 1924. He then worked as an accountant and manager of a department store in New York City and Norfolk between 1924 and 1927. In the following years, from From 1927 to 1932, he was an electrical accessories wholesaler in Salisbury, Maryland . He then moved to Churchland, Virginia in 1932 and worked in agriculture.

Hardy was elected a Democrat in the 80th and ten subsequent Congresses. He served in Congress between January 3, 1947 and January 3, 1969. During this time he also participated in the letter of protest against racial integration in public institutions. He withdrew from the political limelight in early 1969. He decided not to run again for the 1968 election for the 91st Congress.

After his political career, he worked as a director of Dominion Bankshares Corp. and other financial institutions in Virginia.
