Samuel I. Hopkins

Samuel Isaac Hopkins (born December 12, 1843 in Owensville , Prince George's County , Maryland , †  January 15, 1914 in Lynchburg , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1887 and 1889 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Samuel Hopkins moved with his parents to Anne Arundel County while he was a child , where he attended public schools. During the Civil War he served in the Confederation Army until he was wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg . After the war he settled in Lynchburg, where he worked in trade. Politically, he became a member of the Labor Party .

In the 1886 congressional election , Hopkins was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded John W. Daniel on March 4, 1887 . Since he refused to run again in 1888, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1889 . After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Samuel Hopkins went back to trading in Lynchburg. He died there on January 15, 1914.
