The county lies on the west bank of Chesapeake Bay and borders the city of Baltimore to the north . Anne Arundel County covers an area of ​​1,523 square kilometers; of which 445 square kilometers (29.25 percent) are water surfaces. It borders on the following counties:

history

The county was formed from disorganized territory in 1650. From 1654 to 1658 this was County Providence County . In 1658 the county was named after Anne Arundel, wife of Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore , the first owner of the colony Province of Maryland.

Historical objects

  • The historically relevant Tulip Hill plantation is located about four kilometers west of Galesville . The property, built between 1755 and 1756, was recorded on April 15, 1970 by the NRHP with the number 70000261.

According to the 2000 census , Anne Arundel County had 489,656 people in 178,670 households and 129,178 families. The population density was 455 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.24 percent white, 13.57 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 2.29 percent Asian and 0.93 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.69 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.63 percent of the population.

The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 99.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 97.1 males.
