The county is located on the Delmarva Peninsula on the east bank of Chesapeake Bay and has an area of 1,235 square kilometers; of which 536 square kilometers (46.4 percent) are water surfaces. It borders on the following counties:

history
Talbot County was formed in 1661 from parts of Kent County. It was named after Grace, Lady Talbot , sister of Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore .
Five sites in Prince George's County have National Historic Landmark status due to their historical significance . 63 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 14, 2017).

As of the 2010 census , Talbot County had 37,782 people in 16,213 households. The population density was 54.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.20 people each in the 16,213 households.
The racial the population was composed of 81.4 percent white, 12.8 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 1.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.6 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.5 percent of the population.
19.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 56.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 23.7 percent were 65 years or older. 52.2 percent of the population was female.
