The Somerset County is a county in the US state of Maryland . The county seat is Princess Anne .
geography
The county is located on the Delmarva Peninsula on the east bank of Chesapeake Bay , borders Virginia to the south and is the southernmost county of Maryland. Somerset County covers an area of 1,582 square kilometers; of which 734 square kilometers (46.43 percent) are water surfaces. It borders on the following counties:

history
Somerset County was formed in 1666 by order-in-council on former Indian land. It was named after Mary, Lady Somerset , sister-in-law of Cæcilius Calvert, 2nd Baron Baltimore .
In 1742 what would become Worcester County was spun off. In 1867, parts of Somerset and Worcester Counties formed what is now Wicomico County .
