The Calvert County is a county in the state of Maryland of the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 88,737 people and a population density of 159 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Prince Frederick .

The county is located on the southwest bank of Chesapeake Bay and covers an area of 894 square kilometers; of which 336 square kilometers (37.65 percent) are water surfaces. It borders on the following counties:

Today's Calvert County was formed in 1654 from disorganized area (actually Indian land). Originally, like the Patuxent River, it was named Patuxent County after the Patuxent Indians . In 1658 it was renamed after the surname Calvert of the Barons of Baltimore .
Two buildings in the county have the status of a National Historic Landmark due to their historical significance , the JC Lore Oyster House and the oystercatcher William B. Tennison . 20 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 11, 2017).
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census , Calvert County had 74,563 people in 25,447 households and 20,154 families. The population density was 134 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.9 percent white, 13.1 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.9 percent Asian and 0.5 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.5 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 25,447 households, 41.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.9 percent were single mothers, and 20.8 percent were non-families. 16.3 percent of all households were single households and 5.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.26.
29.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24, 40.0 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 years old, and 8.9 percent were 65 years or older . The median age was 36 years. Statistically, there were 97.3 males for every 100 females and 94.0 males for every 100 females aged 18 or over.
The average income of a household amounted to 65,945 USD , for a family is 71,545 USD. Males had a median income of $ 48,664 versus $ 32,265 for females. The per capita income was $ 25,410. About 3.1 percent of families and 4.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line .
