4th Earl of Dorset

Dorchester County was formed in 1668 on Indian land then designated as disorganized. It was named after Edward Sackville, 4th Earl of Dorset , an English nobleman.

As of the 2000 census , Dorchester County had 30,674 people in 12,706 households and 8,500 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer.
