The GKD Gebr. Kufferath AG is a family company founded in 1925 with headquarters in Mariaweiler , a district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia . The unlisted stock corporation is the parent company of the corporation of the same name, which includes subsidiaries in the USA, South Africa, France, China, Spain, India and Chile.

GKD-Gebr. Kufferath develops and produces technical meshes made of metal wire and plastic as well as spiral mesh and processes these products according to the requirements of clients in industry and architecture, among other things, into process belts, filter systems and architectural mesh. The company is regarded as the world market leader in this area and is the market leader in metal mesh with a 90% market share.

In 2017, the GKD Group achieved sales of EUR 87 million and employed 764 people worldwide as of December 31 of the year. With 443 employees, the parent company in Düren is the group's largest employer.

history

The owner-managed company was founded in 1925 by Josef Kufferath and is now run by the third generation of the brothers Ingo Kufferath and Stephan Kufferath.

GKD has been manufacturing architectural meshes since 1992; As a first project, the new building of the National Library in Paris designed by Dominique Perrault was equipped with a fine metal mesh. The company's architectural mesh structures include: B. the Kunsthalle Mannheim , the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg, the Indemann observation tower , the Planet m from Bertelsmann at the Expo 2000 . Striking buildings such as the Fifa headquarters in Zurich and the opera in Beijing followed. The company also supplied the wind protection for the conversion of the Holmenkollbakken for the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2011 .

In 2008, the GKD Group achieved the highest turnover in the company's history with over 106 million euros.

Business activity

GKD-Gebr. Kufferath has a total of six production sites in Germany, the USA, Chile, South Africa, India and China, as well as branches in France, Spain and Dubai. There are also worldwide agencies.

The production and development activities of the GKD Group are divided into the business areas of industrial mesh (technical mesh and filter solutions), process belts ( conveyor belts made of mesh for production plants), architectural mesh (metal mesh for building facades, ceilings and interior architecture) and transparent media facades (stainless steel mesh with integrated LEDs) .

The company's products are used in the automotive and aviation industries, in medical and environmental technology, in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and textile industries, in the wood and paper processing industries, in mining, in the oil-producing industry and in architecture and design used. In addition to series production, GKD develops individual solutions based on customer specifications. In the development of new filter fabrics, the company uses simulation software that enables fabric parameters to be varied virtually and thus to construct fabrics with optimized flow and filtration properties with fewer test weaves.
