history

Glen Burnie was founded in 1812 by a district attorney named Elias Glenn near what is now Harlem Park in Baltimore. He initially gave the newly founded settlement the name Glennsburne. So the Glenns managed to acquire a large area of land in Anne Arundel County . After the death of William Wilkins Glenn, the land was divided between his brother, son and nephew. Glenburnie officially became part of the State of Maryland in 1888. Since then, the place has grown continuously.
