John Dawson (politician)

John Dawson (born 1762 in Colony of Virginia , † March 31, 1814 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician and lawyer. From 1796 to 1814 he sat for the state of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives .

Act

Born in Virginia, he studied law at Harvard University in 1782 and became a lawyer. He was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1786 to 1789 , to the Continental Congress in 1788, and an envoy to ratify the American Constitution in 1788. It was in 1796 as a member of the Democratic-Republicans in the Congress elected, his term began in 1797 and he remained until his death on March 31, 1814, Rep. His successor in the office was Philip Pendleton Barbour.

He brought messages from President John Adams to the French government in 1801 . He also served as an advisor to General Jacob Brown and later President Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812 . He died in Washington on March 31, 1814 and is buried in Congressional Cemetery .
