Posey G. Lester

Posey Green Lester (born March 12, 1850 in Floyd , Floyd County , Virginia , †  February 9, 1929 in Roanoke , Virginia) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Posey Lester attended public schools in his home country. He then worked as a teacher in Floyd County. He was also a clergyman in the Primitive Baptist Church from 1876 . From 1883 he was in Wilson ( North Carolina ) co-editor of a church newspaper. In 1920 he was to become its editor-in-chief. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional election of 1888 Lester was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fifth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded John Robert Brown on March 4, 1889 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1893 . In 1892 he renounced another candidacy. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Posey Lester worked again in Floyd as a clergyman. From 1921 he was pastor in Roanoke, where he died on February 9, 1929.
