Wilson is a city in and at the same time the administrative seat of Wilson County in the state of North Carolina in the United States of America with 44,405 inhabitants in 2000, making it one of the 20 largest cities in the state. Wilson has an Amtrak station and a public transportation system .

Demographics
According to the census in 2000, 44,405 people lived here in 17,296 households and 11,328 families. The population density is 736.1 inhabitants per km². The racial population is composed of 46.67.87% White, 47.53% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, and 3.89% from other ethnic groups. About 1.01% are descended from two or more races and 7.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latinos .
There are 17,296 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42% of whom are married couples living together, 19.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% are non-families. 29.4% consisted of single households and 10.9% had people 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.06 people.
