Robert Digges Wimberly Connor (born September 26, 1878 in Wilson , North Carolina , † February 25, 1950 ) was an American historian and the first archivist in the United States . He was the son of Henry G. Connor and Kate Whitfield Connor. US President Franklin Roosevelt appointed him head of the National Archives . He worked in this position from October 10, 1934 to September 15, 1941. Before that he was a history professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill , from which he himself graduated in 1899.
