United States Archivist

The Archivist of the United States ( English Archivist of the United States ) is the head of an authority of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The first incumbent was Robert Digges Wimberly Connor in 1934, when the authority was created by Congress. Until the creation of NARA on April 1, 1985, these archivists were bound by instructions as an independent authority .

The archivist is responsible for file management, safe storage and separation. Its headquarters are in Washington, DC
