from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bartolomeo Bernardi (* around 1660 in Bologna ; † 23 May 1732 in Copenhagen ) was an Italian composer and violinist.

Life

All that is known about Bernardi's career is that he was a student of Giuseppe Torelli . In 1692, in his first published collection of works, he referred to himself as Academici filarmonico , which identifies him as a member of the prestigious Bolognese musicians' association.

In 1702 he came to the court of King Frederick IV of Denmark and Norway, and Duke of Schleswig and Holstein, as a traveling musician . In 1703 Bernardi became a member of the royal Danish court orchestra in Copenhagen. He was accompanied by several musicians from his environment, who formed the staff for the newly opened royal opera house in Amalienborg Palace . In 1705 he left Copenhagen, but in 1710 became music director of the Danish court. He held this position until his death. Heinrich Bokemeyer is said to have been one of his students .
