Jim Moran

James Patrick "Jim" Moran (born May 16, 1945 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American politician . Since 1991 he has represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jim Moran attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester ( Massachusetts ) until 1967 . In 1967 and 1968 he graduated from the Bernard Baruch School of Finance , which is part of the City University of New York . He later studied at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania until 1970 and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles until 1978 . In the meantime he worked in the banking industry and as a financial accountant. From 1968 to 1974 he was employed by the US Department of Health . Between 1974 and 1976 he worked for the Congress Administration. From 1976 to 1979 he belonged to the administrative staff of the Appropriations Committee in the Senate . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . From 1979 to 1982 Moran was a member of Alexandria City Council . Then he was deputy mayor of this city until 1984. From 1985 to 1990 he finally served as mayor there.

In the 1990 congressional election , Moran was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Stanford Parris on January 3, 1991 . After ten re-elections so far, he can still exercise his mandate in Congress today. During his time as a member of parliament, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan occurred . Moran sits on the grant committee and two sub-committees. He is also a member of eight Congressional Caucuses ; among other things he is a co-founder of the New Democrat Coalition . In 1998 he supported an impeachment lawsuit against President Bill Clinton over the Lewinsky affair .

Jim Moran is married for the second time and has four children. Privately, he lives with his family in Arlington .
