Robert J. "Rob" Wittman (born February 3, 1959 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician . Since 2007 he has represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rob Wittman studied biology as a cadet in the United States Army at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg . He then studied health care at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He later attended the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond until 2002 . He then worked for the Virginia Department of Health for 20 years . Politically, Wittman joined the Republican Party . Between 1986 and 1996 he sat on the local council of Montross . From 1992 and also until 1996 he was mayor of this place. From 1996 to 2005, Wittman was a member of the Westmoreland County County Council; between 2004 and 2005 he was chairman of this body. He then served in the Virginia House of Representatives in 2006 and 2007 .

After the death of MP Jo Ann Davis in October 2007, Rob Wittman was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the due by-election for the first seat in Virginia, where he took up his new mandate on December 11, 2007. As he was re-elected in all subsequent elections, including the one in 2016, he can continue to exercise his mandate today. His latest legislative term runs until January 3, 2019. He is or was a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Committee on Natural Resources and three sub-committees. Wittman advocates tax cuts and spending cuts.

He is married and has two children. He lives with his family in Montross.
