Frederick Carlyle "Rick" Boucher (born August 1, 1946 in Washington County , Virginia ) is an American politician . Between 1983 and 2011 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Rick Boucher attended Abingdon High School until 1964 and then Roanoke College in Salem until 1968 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville and his admission to the bar in 1971, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1974 and 1983 he was a member of the Virginia Senate .

In the 1982 congressional election , Boucher was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded William C. Wampler on January 3, 1983 . After 13 re-elections, he was able to complete a total of 14 legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2011 . There he was a member of the Committee on Energy and Trade and the Justice Committee, as well as three sub-committees. During his time as a congressman, the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 , the Iraq war and the military operation in Afghanistan fell . In 2010 he was defeated by the Republican Morgan Griffith .

Since the end of his tenure in the US House of Representatives, Frederick Boucher has worked as an attorney for the law firm Sidley Austin .
