John F. Dezendorf

John Frederick Dezendorf (born August 10, 1834 in Lansingburgh , Rensselaer County , New York , †  June 22, 1894 in Norfolk , Virginia ) was an American politician . Between 1881 and 1883 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good education, John Dezendorf completed an apprenticeship in the carpenter's trade. Then he studied architecture and construction. Between 1850 and 1860 he worked in Toledo and Cleveland , Ohio in the construction industry and in railroad construction. After that he also worked in trade. From 1863 he lived in Norfolk, where he worked in the mail order business until 1866. During the Reconstruction he worked as a land surveyor for the Norfolk region. From 1870 to 1872 Dezendorf worked for the federal finance authority. Until 1877 he was a tax appraiser for customs in Norfolk. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In June 1876 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cincinnati , where Rutherford B. Hayes was nominated as a presidential candidate. Two years later he ran unsuccessfully for Congress .

In the congressional elections of 1880 Dezendorf was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded John Goode on March 4, 1881 . Until March 3, 1883 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . After his time in the US House of Representatives, Dezendorf worked again in the construction industry. He died in Norfolk on June 22, 1894.
