Severn E. Parker

Severn Eyre Parker (born July 19, 1787 in Eastville , Northampton County , Virginia , †  October 21, 1836 in Northampton County) was an American politician . Between 1819 and 1821 he represented the state of Virginia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Severn Parker attended public schools in his home country. After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Republican Party . Between 1809 and 1821 he was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives . In 1813 he was appointed Deputy Clerk to the Northampton County administration. During the British-American War in 1814 he was captain of a rifle company. From 1817 to 1820 he was a member of the Virginia Senate . During this time he was a member of both chambers of the legislature of his state and, since 1819, also a congressman.

In the 1818 congressional election , Parker was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 13th  constituency of Virginia , where he succeeded Burwell Bassett on March 4, 1819 . Until March 3, 1821 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . Then the mandate fell back to Bassett. In 1828 and 1829, and again from 1834 to 1836, Parker was again a member of the Virginia House of Representatives. He died on October 21, 1836 and was buried in the private cemetery at Kendall Grove Farm near Eastville.
