Paul S. Trible, Jr.

Paul Seward Trible, Jr. (born December 29, 1946 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of Virginia in the US Senate .

Professional career

Trible was born in Baltimore, Maryland and later attended public and private schools in New Orleans , Louisiana and Clarks Summit , Pennsylvania . He received his PhD from Hampden Sidney College in 1968 and from Washington and Lee Law School in Lexington , Virginia in 1971 . He was admitted as the same year lawyer and began in Alexandria to work. At the same time he was a legal clerk at the United States District Court for eastern Virginia from 1971 to 1972 . From 1972 to 1974 he was assistant to the district attorney for the Eastern District Court and then from 1974 to 1976 he was the Essex County district attorney .

In 1976 he was elected to the Virginia Law Enforcement Officers Training and Standards Commission . Since 1996 he has also been President of Christopher Newport University in Newport News .

Political career

As a representative of the Republican Party, he was elected to the House of Representatives in the 95th Congress in 1976 and confirmed in office in the following two legislative terms. In 1982 he no longer ran for his current office, but was elected to the Senate , where he represented his state until January 3, 1989. He did not stand in the election year of 1988.
