John Taylor of Caroline

John Taylor of Caroline (born December 19, 1753 in Caroline County , Colony of Virginia , † August 21, 1824 ibid) was an American politician of the Democratic Republican Party . From 1792 to 1794, in 1803 and from 1822 until his death, he sat for the state of Virginia in the US Senate .

biography

Taylor grew up in Caroline County in what was then the colony of Virginia. He studied at the College of William & Mary Law . From 1774 he worked as a lawyer.

From 1779 to 1787 Taylor was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates . In 1792 he was sent to the US Senate for the first time, in the regular elections in 1793 he was elected for a full term. In 1794, however, he resigned. He then became a member of the House of Delegates again. In 1797 he was a member of the Electoral College . In 1803 he became a member of the Senate again, this time for just under half a year. Once again, he resigned before the end of his term of office, after which he again became a member of the House of Delegates. In 1822 he was reappointed to the Senate. In the regular elections he was elected for the full term of office, but could not complete it because he died during the term of office.
